How is the fuel crisis affecting health workers? Answer our survey

Friday 01 May 2026

78% of health workers are already affected by the fuel crisis or bracing for its impact.*

Recently, we asked health workers how the fuel crisis is affecting them.

We heard from 70 people from NSW to Papua New Guinea. The message was clear: staff are struggling to get to work, more people working from home where possible, rising costs for home care, and growing demand for support as communities feel the financial strain.

There are early signs of knock-on effects too, with healthcare often one of the first services affected when cost pressures rise.

Some services have been able to soften the impact by moving to EV fleets, but many are still exposed, especially with rising delivery costs for medicines and supplies.

This is more than a fuel issue. It reinforces the importance of reliable, low-emission, clean energy for sustaining healthcare services.
