New report: Vulnerability and Adaptation – Current work across the GGHH Pacific Network

Tuesday 10 March 2026

We know that climate change is disrupting healthcare systems across the Pacific. Our new report, Vulnerability and Adaptation examines where Global Green & Healthy Hospitals (GGHH) Pacific members are at when it comes to understanding their vulnerability to climate change, and adapting their facilities and processes to respond accordingly.

Some key takeaways:

  • National climate risk assessments provide robust, integrated analysis, but their translation into local, healthcare-specific information is incomplete and inconsistent.
  • New Zealand demonstrates cohesive adaptation due to strong central coordination, while decentralised health systems in Australia vary in maturity.
  • Adaptation actions largely address well-recognised risks such as heat stress, bushfire smoke, flooding, infectious disease shifts and service disruption. Infrastructure adaptation has yet to progress beyond early groundwork.
  • Workforce training and climate literacy initiatives are progressing well.
