CAHA at COP30 in Belém

Belém Health Action Plan

Today marks Health Day at COP30 and the launch of the Belém Health Action Plan for the Adaptation of the Health Sector to Climate Change.

CAHA was proud to work with our international partners to input into the plan online and in person in Brasilia in July 2025. After 30 COPs and three Health Days, we finally have an action plan for governments to address climate and health – already backed by 40+ countries!

We were happy to see the Australian Government and Tuvalu support the plan, and we are waiting for Aotearoa New Zealand government to sign on too. Now, we need more countries from around the world to endorse the Action Plan, along with the financial resources and political will necessary to ensure its implementation.

Read the plan here.

Today has reinforced that Australia and the Pacific are ready and eager to co-host a COP31 that puts people and health at the heart of climate action. We are prepared to advocate for a COP31 that protects health, strengthens partnerships and secures a healthy future for people and the planet.

Youth voices

Also today, youth voices took centre stage today at Health Day during COP30 in Belém, Brazil!

Bianca Lau-Goodchild spoke at an event hosted by Health Care Without Harm, alongside fellow young leaders, highlighting the importance of platforming young voices in decisions that shape the future of climate and health.

Bianca has been meeting with youth from around the world, representing health and ensuring their perspectives are heard, because young people are most affected by today’s decisions and play a crucial role in securing a safe and healthy climate for generations to come.

“… we have the reach and collective power to ensure equitable access, facilitate intergenerational dialogue and amplify the voices of youth from across our region, who are the health leaders of tomorrow.”
