Reforming Global Governance: Inclusive Multilateralism and the Role of Children and Youth

This panel, co-organized by the Spanish Youth Council (CJE) and UNICEF, examines the urgent need to reform global governance through the lens of inclusive multilateralism, with a particular focus on youth as leaders of this transformation. As trust in international institutions erodes and global challenges intensify, the session asks: What would a truly inclusive multilateral system look like? And how can young people move from being consulted to being decision-makers? Drawing on the Pact for the Future, the UN Secretary-General's vision of networked multilateralism, and concrete experiences from youth advisory bodies and intergenerational governance models, the discussion explores pathways to democratise global governance and embed youth participation as a structural principle, not a symbolic gesture.

  • Time: 17:30-18:30
  • Speakers: Bianca Lau-Goodchild (CAHA), Ángela Cordones -  International Affairs Team, Spanish Youth Council, Bea - UNICEF Spain's Childhood and Adolescence Advisory Group, Irene Pérez - SEO BirdLife Spain, Aida Bustos, Spain's Generación Clima COP31, Seruni Salsabila, UNIDO Youth Advisory Group
  • Location: Spanish Pavilion

Make the Invisible Visible: The Role of Children and Youth Environmental actors

Beneath the language of economic growth, industrial progress and development lies stories that rarely receive the attention they deserve: landscapes scarred by extraction, ecosystems under pressure, communities bearing disproportionate environmental costs and children inheriting consequences they had no part in creating.

Extraction costs rarely appear on an invoice. They surface later, in degraded soil, displaced communities, and children inheriting a ledger they never signed. This event exists to make that invisible ledger visible, and to insist that the generation most affected by it, children and youth, be recognized not as future stakeholders waiting for their turn, but as environmental actors acting now.
