All over Australia, health professionals are increasingly concerned about the effects of climate change on health and well being. Many are joining the Our Climate Our Health campaign to support action on climate change to protect their community's health.

Climate change will have significant impact on the health of people in Far North Queensland. Increases in extreme weather events including cyclones, heat waves and floods will put the most vulnerable people in our communities at greater risk; and sea level rises will affect coastal communities in the Cape and Islands of the Torres Strait.

Health professionals are among the most trusted occupations in the country, and the power of your voice is hugely important to bringing about change in climate policy. This workshop is designed to provide you with the knowledge, skills and confidence to use that voice to influence politicians and policymakers.

If you'd like to participate, please register for Cairns here and Townsville here

What's on the agenda?

This is a one day training workshop that will give you the skills, knowledge and confidence to:

  • Talk about the links between climate change and health to colleagues, friends and family members;
  • Participate in coordinated actions to shape government policy on climate and health;
  • Talk to the media and tell your story effectively;
  • Influence your own local politicians and institutions to take meaningful action;
  • Link with a network of health professionals in your area and nation wide working on raising awareness of the impacts of climate change on health.

We look forward to seeing you there!

Yours in community,

Nicole Sleeman (Cairns-based GP and volunteer organiser for the Climate and Health Alliance, Our Climate Our Health campaign)

Alice Eggleston (Sydney based Registered Nurse and Campaign Organiser for the Climate and Health Alliance, Our Climate Our Health campaign)
