ACT Health finalist in Resilient Australia Awards

ACT Health is a finalist in the national resilience category for its response to the bushfire smoke that blanketed Canberra in January 2020, including its innovative air quality monitoring, public messaging and public health risk mitigation strategies. Read more.

Come to our drop-in session on submissions on the ACSQHC Sustainable Healthcare Module

The ACSQHC are accepting feedback on their Draft Sustainable Healthcare Module until Tuesday 31 January. We are encouraging as many people as possible to make a submission with the help of our simple submission guide!

CAHA is not directly involved in the development of the Module. We're encouraging as many people as possible to make a submission. This will demonstrate there is demand for the Module, and help to make the module an effective mechanism for driving change to achieve sustainable, climate resilient, safe and quality care in a climate affected world.

Applications open for NSW Health Sustainable Futures Innovation Fund

The NSW Health Sustainable Futures Innovation Fund provides funding to staff employed within NSW local health districts, specialty health networks, pillar or support organisations. The fund is designed to build sustainable innovation capability and accelerate innovation projects that improve patient care and reduce our environmental footprint. Applications close Friday 10 February. Read more.

Doctors for Nutrition are holding their 2023 conference in Melbourne. More info

Some of the biggest names in whole food plant-based nutrition and healthcare will share their research, including:

This paper identifies three factors influencing implementation of food waste audits including capacity, change, processes, governance, and leadership. These each had barriers and enablers (often one solving the other or getting in the way of realisation) which was depicted as a see-saw in the figure of the paper.

This Australian-focused literature review provides an evidence-based set of recommendations and principles to most effectively decarbonise healthcare clinics.

Lifecycle assessment of incontinence products

Resources, Conservation and Recycling, May 2019

This research evaluates the resource efficiency potential by means of a case study on incontinence products using life cycle assessment. Measures to increase efficiency include recycling of waste generated in production, increasing the share of bio-based material in the product, shifting to a partly reusable product system and more effective use of products through customization to user’s needs.


New database | Healthcare LCA

HealthcareLCA is the first database of environmental impacts in healthcare. It brings together environmental assessments of health systems, hospitals, healthcare services, surgical procedures, medical equipment and pharmaceuticals into an open-access database. This new paper documents the establishment of the database.

Climate Resilience for Frontline Clinics Toolkit

This toolkit is a useful resource for health care providers, patients and administrators at free clinics and community health centres to meet the challenges for health care from climate change.

A series of webinar recordings are now available which feature NHS Trusts across the UK sharing stories of sustainability quality improvement.
