New report: How our health systems are reporting on their greenhouse gases
Monday 02 February 2026
Our new report maps current policies related to greenhouse gas emissions reporting within health systems across Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand. Although there has been progress in reporting GHG emissions within health systems in both countries, the criteria and methods used for these reporting schemes differ. This variation exists even among states and territories in Australia, leading to challenges in establishing benchmarks and comparing the GHG emissions of different health systems.
Our findings show a standardised reporting of greenhouse gas produced by health systems is essential to establish a baseline, identify major contributors, and improve real climate progress across health systems.
