Forum 2023: Congrats to our sustainable healthcare award winners!
We had so many wonderful nominees for this year's Sustainable Healthcare Champion award, it was hard to narrow it down to just one!
The panel chose a worthy winner; one who has been a champion in environmental sustainability and climate action throughout their 13 years working in public health. As Project Director for the world’s first statutory inquiry into climate change and health, they played a significant role in the development of the framework which has allowed the WA health system to respond to climate change and inspired positive climate action more broadly.
Now, she is the Sustainable Development Officer in the Sustainable Development Unit at WA Health where she has earned significant achievements, such as:
- The successful completion of the first ever carbon footprint assessment of the WA Health system,
- Advocating for, and coordinating the submission to have Desflurane removed from clinical use in all public hospitals in WA,
- Establishing a scholarship program to build capacity and educate staff across the WA health system to strengthen the provision of environmentally sustainable services in WA.
Her commitment to sustainable healthcare and efforts to transform WA Health into an environmentally sustainable and low carbon health care system is admirable.
Congratulations, Dr Sarah Joyce!
We also had lots of great submissions for the Greening the Healthcare Sector Forum People’s Choice Award 2023.
The poster chosen by the people was 'Food Organics at FSH Patient Catering' by Genaveve Palmer at the Department of Patient Catering, Fiona Stanley Hospital!
