Argentina sets example as first country to include healthcare decarbonisation in its global climate commitment
Argentina’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), submitted to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) at the end of 2020, establishes health as a cross-cutting issue, central to addressing climate change. It identifies health-centered climate adaptation and resilience measures as have other countries. However, in a new development, Argentina’s NDC calls for an assessment of greenhouse gas emissions from its health care sector itself and the establishment of actions to reduce those emissions as a priority for implementing their NDC.

RESEARCH
Is climate change exacerbating health-care workforce shortages for underserved populations?
Pendrey, CG et al.
The authors of this article surveyed registered practicing medical professionals working in the Northern Territory to assess their perceptions of climate-related health effects and investigate whether climate change is affecting their intentions to stay in the Northern Territory.
"Over a third (34%) of the respondents indicated that climate change is already causing, or likely to cause, them to consider leaving the Northern Territory. 85% of respondents reported that climate change is already causing, or likely to cause, negative effects on the health of their patients, and nearly three-quarters (74%) responded that climate change is already causing, or likely to cause, parts of the Northern Territory to become uninhabitable."
Views of health professionals on climate change and health: a multinational survey study
Kotcher, J et al.
This multinational survey of health professionals published in the Lancet Planetary health investigated health professionals views towards climate change and health, and the barriers they felt prevented them from taking action. Among other findings, it shows that a majority of respondents (98%) thought healthcare workers should actively encourage their nation's leaders to strengethen their commitments to acheiveing the goals of the Paris Agreement.
